IAN ALTMAN
Associate Professor of Piano

Ian Altman’s concerts have taken him from coast to coast in the U.S. and Canada. His wide repertoire ranges from Scarlatti and Mozart to Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Prokofiev, and other 20th Century masters including contemporary composers. He appears as a recitalist, soloist, and chamber player and is highly regarded in the romantic virtuoso repertory. He holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. He earned a Doctorate of Music from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Among his teachers are the renowned American pianist Eugene List and Israeli pianist David Bar-Ilan, as well as Frank Weinstock and Jeanne Dowis. Altman has performed regularly with his wife, cellist Barbara Altman, and with chamber ensembles including The American String Quartet and The Trans-Atlantic Horn Quartet.

The program for Sha’arey Israel concert will include works by Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Schumann, and Liszt. Ian Altman has been a member of Congregation Sha’arey Israel for thirty-five years.
