Daybreak

Congregation Sha’arey Israel (CSI) is partnering with Daybreak, a daytime service center for Middle Georgia’s homeless and others in need. Services include housing and housing placement, case management, breakfast and snacks, laundry facilities, showers, a free health clinic, access to phones and computers, transportation assistance, and identification and documentation assistance. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: snack area; showers; reception; technology lab; and the great room gathering area. Hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Tuesday hours are 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Minimum shifts are 2 hours. Call 478-216-9119 if you are interested in volunteering. Donations are needed for the following supplies: bleach, ground coffee, creamer, sugar, and all kinds of cereal. Check the CSI bulletin board or newsletters, as new requests for needed supplies are posted. Daybreak is located at 174 Walnut St., Macon, GA 31201.

Macon Outreach

Macon Outreach is greatly in need of non-perishable food donations, collected year-round in a cart in the hallway near the Chapel. Items such as canned fish and beans, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, applesauce, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, and pasta are especially helpful. Please help contribute to this Tikun Olam effort by bringing a can with you on your way to services and/or religious school.

Thank you to all the dedicated CSI and TBI volunteers who serve lunch to those in need at Macon Outreach (Mulberry Methodist) on the third Thursday of each month from 10:45 AM – noon. If you are interested in participating, please contact Bonnie Cornelius. You can call the CSI secretary for Bonnie’s contact information. Macon Outreach is located at 267 1st St, Macon, GA 31201.

Project Isaiah

For the past 30 years, Conservative synagogues have made Operation Isaiah part of their High Holiday observances. Inspired by the Prophet Isaiah’s words in the Yom Kippur Haftorah, “Share your bread with the hungry,” we bring non-perishable food to the synagogue on Yom Kippur. Receptacles for your donations will be in the lobbies, and the collected food will stock the shelves at Macon Outreach at Mulberry.

Those of us who are able are also encouraged to mail a check to:

MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger
10495 Santa Monica Blvd. #100
Los Angeles, CA 90025

Members of CSI donate many bags of groceries every Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. All the non-perishable cans, boxes and jars of food are donated to the Macon Outreach Pantry at Mulberry Methodist Church. Yasher Koach to our members who participate in this amazing Tikkun Olam effort.
