August Dates to Remember

It’s August, which means Summer is still in full effect, but many people are getting ready to go back to a normal schedule. Kids will soon be heading back to school, and we will soon look forward to preparing for the High Holidays.

On a personal note, this month will be one of the highlights of my life as my first-born son will be called to the Torah 30 years after I did the same (on the same bimah with the same rabbi!). This is one of those moments parents think about; the minute their child is born and watching them grow up and prepare for this moment is something special, not just for the parents but all those in the community who have been able to witness this transformation.

The following month will be the time for High Holidays, beginning with Selichot which is only about 6 weeks away. More announcements are to come regarding the holidays. We hope to see everyone at shul for all the coming events.

Here are some dates this month to note:

Saturday, August 2: The Fast of Tisha b ’Av. We will have a Havdalah service that night at 9:15 PM followed by the chanting of Lamentations.

Saturday, August 9: Brady Kruger’s Bar Mitzvah. The congregation is invited to the service with a wonderful Kiddush luncheon to follow hosted by Steve & Shelley Kruger. We will have many visitors in town for the event so please give them all a warm welcome to Macon. Also, please note we will be starting the service at 9AM, which is a little earlier than the typical Saturday morning service.

Sunday, August 17: We will be welcoming Neil Rabinowitz to conduct a Situational Awareness & Countering Active Threats Training. With today’s political climate and the continual news of anti-Semitic incidents, we feel that it’s very important that we all be vigilant and prepared for anything. Please plan to attend this important event.

September Dates to Remember:
· September 13 – Selichot
· September 22 – Erev Rosh Hashanah
· September 23 & 24 – Rosh Hashanah Services

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Shalom,

Michael & Jan
