Looking forward to October’s Observances

Dear CSI Congregants,

We hope that you enjoyed Rosh Hashana and that you will be inspired for a New Year during Yom Kippur. Don’t forget to come to dinner in the Sukkah on 10/6 – RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST FOR THIS DINNER. And come to at least one of the Sukkah hops, in Macon, Milledgeville or Warner Robins; the list is in this Bulletin. Services for Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah will round out this month’s observances. We hope that you’ll be able to attend one of these joyful occasions.

At this time of the year, when we begin to read the Torah from its first parashas, our thoughts might be about cycles of renewal, about learning from, atoning for, and then making peace with the past and creating a spirit of hope for the future. As the trees shed their leaves, and the temperature drops (finally!), we can look deeply into our lives and the lives of our loved ones. What do we want that is better, stronger, more inspiring? How can we join with our families and friends to create that? It takes our community, all of us, to band together and bring healing to those who need it, opportunities to those who deserve them, and love to all who can use that most powerful force.

And it takes thanks. So, if we’ve not said it before, or if we’ve not said it enough, we your Co-Presidents want to say “thank you” to everyone who works with us, from our Rabbinic family, Board members, committee chairs, and committee members, to all our fellow congregants, no matter how rarely or how often we get to see you. Thank you for being a part of CSI in this season of renewal and hope. Thanks for helping to sustain CSI through good times and bad. Thanks for being here.

Shalom,
Jan and Michael
