Elections and an Eventful June

As I write this at the end of May, the sky is black and rain is pouring down. They say May showers bring June flowers. I hope that is true for you and yours. Most days coming up should be warm and pleasant – time for backyard celebrations of all kinds. Speaking of celebrations, congratulations to all the Spring graduates. We’re proud of you.

Important Note: For all congregants who were planning to attend the June 8th forum – Building the Next 120 Years – please note that we have changed that in-person meeting at CSI to an All-Congregation Zoom meeting on Thursday evening, June 12th at 7:00 pm. We will use the same Zoom link that we use for Zoom attendance at services: https://csimacon.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c8e9cc4363cedf96445952587&id=c96c6779ad&e=05eaf84292

Also, I want to invite all CSI members to think about our upcoming elections and to consider if there is a committee that you’d like to be part of. We need our members to step forward and help us run the synagogue. I know that people can be intimidated by the idea of working on a committee, thinking that this will require a lot of time. With a few exceptions, we’re talking about a commitment of a few hours a month. I’ve listed the various committees here, and if there is one that interests you, please contact me:

Adult Education; Board of Education; Cemetery; Gifts and Memorials; House; Kitchen; Leadership Development; Library Committee; Long-Range Planning; Marketing and Communication; Membership; Ritual; Security; Social Action, and Ways and Means.

As I did last month, I’ve listed our summer events below so that you can put them into your calendars. Please try to attend as many as possible. I want to draw particular attention to our Annual Congregational Meeting in late June at which we will review the past year, discuss plans for the coming year, and elect new officers and a new Board of Governors. Don’t miss this important meeting.

Sunday June 1st is Erev Shavuot. There is afternoon programming for kids and adults followed by dinner – reservations for these events were due in May. After dinner is a short service followed by Torah activities; these are open to all.

On Thursday June 12th, we will hold our All-Congregation Forum: CSI – Building the Next 120 Years, AT 7:00 PM VIA ZOOM https://csimacon.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c8e9cc4363cedf96445952587&id=c96c6779ad&e=05eaf84292. If you haven’t already attended one of these meetings, please plan to attend this one. These meetings are where we offer our thoughts about what is working best at CSI and what we need to consider as we grow. Your input is vital!

Sunday, June 22nd at 4 pm is CSI’s Annual Congregational Meeting in the Social Hall. Our Board of Governors will give their yearly reports and we will hold elections for officers
and board members. Please join us!

July 25th is our second Family Shabbat followed by dinner. Held poolside at Marty and Elmo Koplin’s home, with a 45-minute Shabbat service, this should be a lot of fun.

Have a great month. See you in shul.

Shalom,
Jan
