Welcome to September, cooler weather, with hurricanes and associated storms, and the beginnings of our High Holy Days. As this season of rejoicing, remembering, and atoning approaches, we want to wish everyone a wonderful Rosh Hashanah and an easy fast on Yom Kippur. We also encourage everyone to take part in other events that are part of this season, including Selichot
(see below), Sukkot and Simchat Torah. Check the dates and times for all services later in this bulletin.
A reminder to all:
For security purposes, if you are bringing family members or guests to any event, please let Stephanie know their names immediately. We will be checking names at the Plum Street entrance to the synagogue; you will not be able to enter the building from First Street, so please bear that in mind when arriving.
Be sure to RSVP for the Selichot celebration on Saturday evening, September 13th from 8:15 to 10pm. Rabbi Aaron has arranged for us to do a workshop with a local weaver. There will also be some nice snacks and beverages to accompany the evening’s program.
As we enter this season, we recall that we have both lost and gained members of our community this past year. Some of blessed memory have passed, while we have added several new and renewing members to CSI, some of whom are already attending services and serving on committees. Thank you to everyone who has mourned with us and who has welcomed our new
members to the CSI family.
In the midst of our feasting and our fasting, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur remind us that we are stronger when we are together. In our present world, so filled with uncertainty and division, CSI remains a place of welcome, nurture and hope. In and outside of the shul, reach out to friends and extend kindness to those who may be struggling. May this season inspire us to
deepen our commitment to one another and to the values that define our faith and Kehillah.
We are grateful for each and every one of you. May this new year bring health, happiness and peace to everyone in our Kehillah and to Jewish people everywhere.
Shalom,
Jan and Michael
